Ditch The Land Line

Are you still paying for a land line AND cell phone service? If so, it’s time to ditch the land line.

Per-minute cellular telephone rates have been dropping for years now and most of us don’t even come close to fully using our allotted minutes each month.

And since most cellular providers have plans that offer free night and weekend calls, there are now few good reasons to keep the land line. Even with a bundled package from your cable or telephone provider, you are probably looking at a savings of at least $40 a month.

Think about it. Sometimes it seems that the only calls we get on the land line are from pimple-faced junior stockbrokers and other telephone companies looking to get your land line business.

Cell phones also give you the added privacy of someone not being able to tell where you are because you happened to answer the phone.

If you don’t want people knowing your cell phone number, you can sign up for a free phone number at Grand Central. This Google-owned company will forward any phone call that comes into your Grand Central number to a phone number of your choosing. You can even have it try several different phones. Got a crazy ex? You can send callers to a custom message based on the number they are calling from. And the best part is, the service is free.

No one will get your cell phone number if you only give out your Grand Central number. There is even an iPhone app that shows your caller ID as your Grand Central number when you make calls from your iPhone.

Ditch the land line, keep your whereabouts private and save some money.
